ZipLog Well Interventions

Basically, there are two wellbore interventions for production- and
injection wells: Wireline and Coiled Tubing. But now Ziebel has introduced
a third alternative - ZipLog Performing well interventions in
high deviation and horizontal wellbore sections have up till now been
complicated and in many instances impossible, and then not at least
in wells with large internal diameter changes, tubing to cased hole
situations, and more.
Through an extensive development project, Ziebel has developed a methodology based on pushing a semi-stiff and spoolable carbon "rod" into live wellbores. The method is utilizing surface equipment similar to wireline and coiled tubing interventions, but much smaller in size and weight than coiled tubing.
Typical measurements performed in real-time with this carbon "rod" deployed into your wellbore would be fiber optic DTS (distributed temperature sensing from surface and along entire "rod" length to bottom) and high accuracy point pressure (in lower end of "rod"). In addition we have implemented a Tool Transportation Verification Sensor in the lower end of the "rod", which is incorporated to increase operator control of deployment, as well as this tool provides information about nipple profiles, tubing end, passing through tubing versus open hole, open hole condition, etc.
Advantages include:
A more efficient methodology than coiled tubing or well "tractor"
Significant smaller crew required
One contractor provides all services
Smaller and much lighter transport and rig-up than coiled tubing
Distributed real-time sensing
Quick rig-up time and more efficient logging = Less lost production
Can be left in hole for extended times
Less risk of losing tools downhole
We built our own 1,000 meters (3 400 feet) horizontal test loop South of Stavanger, Norway, where we have tested various "rod" dimensions and constructions. This site is also used to further develop the system with respect to new sensing techniques, new intervention tools, etc. So if you have well intervention requirements where standard wireline based on weight bars pulling wire into the wellbore simply do not work, call Ziebel! We also believe this system can be used to perform interventions in stiff and flexible production risers in offshore operations. The ZipLog solution is patented by Sensornet Ltd., with an exclusive license to develop and commercialize issued to Ziebel. Ziebel have filed several additional patent applications around the developed solution.
